Objectives

Biophysical characterization of insulin analogs and formulations

Reports to

VP, Research & Development

Responsibilities

·    Biophysical characterization (e.g., unformulated and formulated stability and aggregation) of insulin analogs using full spectrum of protein analytical methods: UV/Vis spectroscopy, circular dichroism, mass spectroscopy, DLS, MALS, AUC, etc.

·    Timely completion of approved studies; meet tight deadlines

·    Performing laboratory tasks safely, rapidly, accurately, independently, and efficiently

·    Leading cross-functional laboratory staff assigned to work on stability- and formulation-related projects

·    Troubleshooting equipment and assay problems quickly and independently

·    Keeping management timely informed of progress, challenges, and results

·    Recording results accurately and meticulously;

·    Reporting progress and challenges in summary and detail on a daily basis

Typical Activities

·    Formulating samples for use in various experiments and assays

·    Quantitation of insulin formulations using analytical reverse-phase HPLC/UPLC

·    Spectroscopic analysis of insulin analogs

·    Conformational and chemical stability analysis

·    Performing MS and other analyses to identify degradation products

·    Keeping accurate laboratory notebooks, and sample management documentation

Skills

·    Protein handling and analysis

·    Formulating proteins for analysis

·    Quantification of protein in solution using analytical HPLC/UPLC

·    MALDI and ESI mass spectrometry analysis including LC/MS and LC/MS-MS

·    UV spectroscopy, circular dichroism as well as other biophysical characterization methods

·    Detailed understanding of behavior of proteins in formulation

·    Adapting to changing circumstances and company priorities

·    Juggling several simultaneous projects.

·    Good listener.  Strong, concise written andoral communication

Background
